Construction and Textiles are the other major industries here. It is connected with San Roque Gonzalez de Santa Cruz Bridge and the port, which once had a lot of economic importance. Used for port vessels and passenger carrying Vessels, some boats at this port were also used for the transport of sand from one location to another. Transport of sand at that time was very strategic for the construction processes and the paucity of sand in the other areas, had made this port a thriving center of economy. Located on the National Route 2, around 1300Kms from Buenos Aires, the International Airport is located 7 kilometers from the city and serves regular flights to connect Posadas with Buenos Aries.
Father Santa Cruz established a town called Anunciacon de Itapua 1615, but ten years later the settlement had been moved to the other side of the Parana River which is now called Encarnacion, Paraguay. But this first settlement was not completely abandoned and during the Paraguauyan War of 1867, the Brazilians set up the Trinchera de San Jose military base here. This town was then renamed after GervasioAnotnio de Posadas who was the Supreme Director of the Argentine Confederation. In 1884, it became the capital of the Misiones Province and the commercial and economic links with Encarnacaion were strengthened with the construction of the connecting bridge.
