The coldest month or the winter season begins from June up to August. The coldest temperature ranges from 11ºC to 19.4 ºC. Surfers will require a wetsuit, yet the water is clear and the skies are for the most part cloud free and perfect for sunbathing.
The spring season begins from September up to November and around this time the crowds are getting less because of the school opening and the day begins to get warmer with humid air breezing from the sea. Wetsuits are not required.
The summer season begins from December and lasts all the way up to the month of February. The temperature registers a high of 27 ºC. The evenings have occasional rain showers, but these are very brief and contribute to cold nights despite the summer season. Don’t forget your cap, hats, and sunscreen lotion.
The fall season is characterized by normal temperatures and can be felt from the months of March until May. The sudden drop in the temperature affects the quality of the water, making it a bit warm and when tourists tend to stay shorter around the shoreline areas of the city.
These are the top attractions and things to do in the city of Byron Bay:
The Lighthouse Trail offer nice walks and enough time to admire the beautiful scenery surrounding the Cape Byron Lighthouse. Take a little time to look at the ocean to be sure to see dolphins playing in the waves! This pleasant walk along the coast has a slightly steeper path. Allow about two hours for the trip or take the round trip from downtown to the Cape Byron Lighthouse tour. It is strongly recommended to take a walk that starts from the lighthouse and through a path that takes you first on the easternmost point of Australia, then walk to the pretty bay and at the end of a beautiful promontory, time your visit before the sunset; the entire landscape looks more stunning as the sun fades and give way to the evening atmosphere.
This trail is the top recreation area in Byron Bay. When you stand on the plateau, you can see the earth's bow on the horizon. It is a wonderful place with many walking paths in the area and when you're here, take your pace and give enough time to admire the beauty of the surroundings. The trail is a bit long, but it’s the official postcard of the city and the scenery is so captivating that you will not notice that you have already arrived at the lighthouse even before realizing it. If you don't like to walk, you can also rent bikes to ride and go around the lighthouse. Bring some light snacks and drinking water because from up there, you will only find one small store. The lighthouse has an amazing sea view and you can see whales and dolphins. Undoubtedly, it is one of the most beautiful attractions you will see in Byron Bay.
Cape Byron Lighthouse
The Cape Byron Lighthouse is located in a stunning location and just around its headland is a footpath to easily access this location. Climb all the way to the top that offers an unforgettable view of the ocean and the surrounding area. From here you can see a school of dolphins in the ocean and at the Cape side, a group of wild kangaroos running around. The best time to climb up here is during sunset. The view over the ocean from the lighthouse is great. The day entry to the lighthouse requires an admission fee ($7), but after 6:00 PM until closing time, it is free. The parking area is near the lighthouse. You also have the possibility to eat and drink some coffee while admiring the beautiful views over the beach. If you can visit from July to October, you'll be able to spot whales. If you walk down, you stand on the eastern tip of Australia, which makes this lighthouse really special.
The lighthouse is the highest place of Byron and frequented by tourists at sunset. It ends (or begins) with ideally a walk on the side and making an effort to reach the top to admire the entire view of Byron Bay. Seeing the sun rise at the Cape Byron lighthouse is also a rewarding experience. It is best to arrive around 5:30 AM to have a parking space not too far from the lighthouse and discover the sun rise slowly and see the sky change its color almost every passing minute. The view is breathtaking and for photo enthusiasts, there are lots of beautiful shots to do along with making good memories too. The only downside of this attraction is it gets too crowded and the parking is limited. The trails are easy to navigate and provide amazing views. It is worth the effort and if you enjoy natural beauty do not even think twice!
The Byron Bay is a great place to relax with friends or the whole family. The beautiful coastline, and of course the great Australian nature is its greatest crowd drawer. Housing, food, and other necessary things is absolutely no problem here. The central part of this city is very cozy and atmospheric and nowhere in Australia will you see so many hippies and surfers per square meter. The town is imbued with the spirit of Bohemian freedom, peace, and joy! People circle around to smile and sing songs! The beach is small and there are a lot of people, but the atmosphere here is very relaxing and enjoyable.

The Belongil Beach has a clear and crystal blue sea with many young people practicing all kinds of water sports. The beach is equipped with good infrastructure along with having many restaurants and bars in the vicinity. The beach has beautiful white sand, which is very soft. It's a little different from the other beaches in the New South Wales territory. There are many high waves, but it depends on the high and low tide level of the day. It is common to see people surfing or wind surfing depending on the weather conditions. On the beach, you will often see people walking their dog and the people here are extremely good at picking up after their dogs, and it is a beautiful sight to see dog owners play or walk the dog around the beach area. You can also find people that are doing yoga on the beach.
On one stretch of the beach is the nudist beach, and everyone is made aware of it by huge signposts. In addition, there is a brown colored creek that runs through the beach where it's really nice to see the tea tree water from the stream mixed with the sea. When there is an extreme low tide, you can see some people on the beach lying around and enjoying their own "instant pool”. There are also hallow and sandy banks. This beach is entirely different from other beaches because it offers new things to explore like; you can fish in the creek with tea trees and you can catch clams in the sea. Yes, it can be eaten, and the locals recommend toasting them on the grill and dashed with white wine and garlic. Belongil Beach is a nice wide beach, where, usually at the end of the afternoon you will see a lot of surfers. At night, when the sun goes down behind the hill it reveals the orange light that changes the color of the sand and makes it look more magical, a place with a unique atmosphere that can only be found here in Byron Bay.
