The best time is the dry season, ie the early months of the year (spring in Europe). If you go later in the year when it's wetter, there are more mosquitoes etc.

There's much more than the beach to visit (we don't do beach holidays either), but it is a small island, so if you rent a car you can see the whole thing inside a week, but it's well worth it. The people are very friendly and welcoming.

In my opinion Barbados is the most beautiful island in the caribbean except for the Dominican republic. I strongly recommend it! Friendliest people on earth!

Country information

Barbados situated just east of the Caribbean Sea, is an independent island nation in the western Atlantic Ocean. At roughly 13? North and 59? West, the country lies in the southern Caribbean region, where it is a part of the Lesser Antilles island-chain. Its closest island neighbours are St.

Transport on the island is good, with 'route taxis', called "ZR's" (pronounced "Zed-Rs" not "Zee-Rs"), travelling to most points on the island. These small buses can at times be crowded, but will usually take the more scenic routes to destinations. They generally depart from the capital Bridgetown or from Speightstown in the northern part of the island.

The island also has plenty of taxis for hire, though they can be expensive. Visitors also have the option of transport by car, presuming that they have a driver's licence (issued in their native country).

The island of Barbados has a single major airport, the Sir Grantley Adams International Airport (GAIA) (IATA identifier BGI). It receives daily flights by several major airlines from points around the globe, as well as several smaller regional commercial airlines and charters.

Barbados is one of the nicest islands in the Caribbean. Its by far the safest. I would suggest going before or after the Christmas Holidays. I usually travel to Barbados in Late November till December 15. The weather is always great and its quite before the mad rush!

Barbados and Dominican Republic are very different in feel and look.
Barbados is not poor although there is poverty and crime ,for example you can walk about Bridgetown and its full of diamond shops and the best food ever.
You could walk about Peurto plata north Dominican and fall down uncoverd manholes and l no icecream van will come along but in Barbados it will.

I love both countrys for very different reasons ...
You asked about things to do other than the beach ..yes lots of things to do but hey with beaches like theres and heat like theres you will need the sea to cool down .Im just back from Barbados and had a lovely time on the beach.. ... ..  --->  :travel Forum:)

Hi

I am  a Barbadian...

Anytime is a good time to be in Barbados...

The hurricane season is usually from September through November and the weather can be unpredictable but because we are so Southerly, most of bad weather passes by us...

I live in the UK and I relish going home as often as I could but that is punctuated because I have my own travel agency...

Barbados is PARADISE!!!

A stable parliamentary democracy...

Great shopping...

Lovely food and great people who are truly laid back and stress-FREE!!!

We work hard to keep Barbados beautiful for all our visitors and friends...

If you need any help with places to stay at great prices or anything whatsoever, please feel free to me anytime...

Thanks and God bless...

Thanks guys for all the great info,
Wendy it is a pleasure to meet somebody from Barbados.
Can you recommend me on a good hotels, (but not so expensive) where I can stay with my friends ?

We are looking to stay somewhere with a view to the beach, preferably a hotel  on the beach.

What is the best beach you recommend to go? and what hotel is located on the best beach.

Thanks again for your help  :js:)

Hi,

in response to your question i would say the best time would be around December/January, it isn't as warm as it gets from April to September, and you can still enjoy the warm water of the caribbean.

The weather is beautiful, less rain than other periods of the year and you will find that the island is buzzing. More people will be there and you can enteract with locals and tourists everyday!

I was staying at The St James Hotel in Paynes Bay (my fav spot of the island) where you get the quiet and stunnign beaches compared to the South coast where you get packed beaches and loads of noise.

Enjoy your holidays.
