Rochester Sweeps Festival

Holidays and Special Days in May in the Great Britain  can be the cultural activity of well dressing that happens in Derbyshire, where the wells of the city are decorated with pretty mosaic like pictures, seeds, tree barks, moss, berries and lots more. The Rochester Sweeps Festival happens on the 4th to 6th May and it is used to celebrate the cleaning of chimney.  There are  the Christian festivals that include the Ascension day and the Whitsuntide, the latter takes place on May 19.

Mardi Gras  is called  the fat Tuesday, this  refers to celebrations that begins on or before the Christian Three king’s day and ending just before Ash Wednesday. The name is used to reflect the fact that Fat Tuesday is the last day Christians get to eat before they start the fasting period of lent. Sometimes, to be able to get a coconut or trinklet, the paraders ask the onlookers to bare their breast. However organizers insist that this is not a tradition and onlookers are under no obligation to bare their bodies. It is usual to wear masks and parade around streets in New Orleans. Kings and Queens parading throw trinklets and coconut to the all too willing crowd who beg for them.

Rivifest, Port Harcourt, Nigeria

If you love culture, you can visit around November for  the colourful annual Rivifest, where you can find the tourists and treated to different cultural dances, boat regattas , masquerades and more festivities. In Isaac Boro Garden Park, lies the tomb of  Major Isaac Boro who was killed in the Biafran war, a location for trade fairs and live music. And if you would want to have a taste of the rich culture of Port Harcourt, your destination should be the Rivers State Museum those houses artifacts that relates to the state’s ethnic groups or the Cultural Center, where you can buy locally made handcrafts.

Festival begins from Rio de Janeiro and there have never been anything close to this festival in the world. Indeed, it is the most famous and  biggest festival  that is held annual  before the Lent. You can see that  over two million people come out to see these people move around the streets of Brazil. It was in 1823 that this festival started and today, it has transformed this city to become the most visited and experienced festival in the world.  The many streets of Rio de Janeiro  are filled with floats, revelers and adornments that come from hundreds of samba schools that are found in the city of Rio.

Eyo Festival

Witness one of the most unique and fabulous celebrations in Nigeria. Some people called it the Adamu Orisha Play, a Yoruba festival that transforms the commercial Lagos Island to be stunning white. It attracts thousands of tourists from around the world who come to see costumed dancers or masquerades called ‘Eyo’ who perform during the festival.  The processions are colourful and a lot of major roads are closed. It is strongly believed that Eyo Festival is a forerunner of the world biggest carnival in the world, the Rio de Janeiro Carnival.
