Mariners have a strenuous job that sees them stay at sea for long periods. When they come to port, they want to be able to have the best that the city can offer. That is why when it comes to the best ports it the world, it is not only about how goods are handled or how long it takes for a container to go through customs. It is also how happy the mariners feel to be at port. Most good ports are equipped with the best IT gadgets to facilitate the removal of shipped goods. However, their cities are also a source for entertainment for the mariners who accompanied the ship to port. In that respect, the following are the top five shipping ports in the world.

This is the busiest port in the world serving as the main hub of goods out of and into Asia. Most of the goods from the US and other European countries pass through this city. There are 67 berths at the port 47 of which are being used as container ports. These occupy an area of 436 hectares. There are many recreational facilities available at the port. This includes activities like kayaking, wakeboarding, and wind surfing.

This port has always ranked behind the Port of Singapore but today, it is one of the busiest in the world. It is located in the economic capital of China which is Shanghai. There are probably more containers that go through this port than anywhere else. The port that is found on the Yangtze River is divided into three sections also called strategies. There is the Yangtze River Strategy, the Internationalisation Strategy and the North east China Strategy. Such division makes it easy for those working in the port and those using the port to find their way around. Most of the import and export that is done in the country comes through this port.

This is a very strategic port in Japan and the busiest. The port that occupies approximately 42 million square meters of land has 21 piers and 29 berths. In 2010 the port was able to hold a total annual cargo of 180 million tons. This port is located in the Isle of bay.

This port that is located on the Mississippi River is said to be the largest bulk cargo port in the world. Most of the grain exports from the country as well as those coming in go through this port. The port’s main channel depth is about 45 feet and the port occupies a surface area of 54 miles. This port has also grown in importance thanks to the fact that it is well connected by good road and railway infrastructure to other parts of the country.

This is the oldest port in the world and the largest in Europe. The port is very useful for the operations of the different petrochemical companies that are in this region.
