There is no denying that mosques are beautifully designed with a lot of details put into the architecture. Apart from the fact that a mosque is a place of worship, a sacred place where faithful go to commune with their God, it would be hard to go past a mosque without noticing how beautiful it is. That is why some mosques have become major landmarks and the source of many tourists visiting a particular city.

The touristic nature of mosques is greatly enhanced by the rapidly growing Muslim population who will happily travel to different countries to visit the mosques. However, don’t be fooled into thinking that only Muslims are interested in the beauty of these mosques. Even if you are not a faithful, it would be hard to ignore the beauty of these buildings. Around the world, there are many of such buildings however there those that stand out from the rest.

In the Muslim religion, this Mosque is considered to be the first place of worship that was built. The Mosque is built around the Kaaba which is the holiest place in the world as regards Muslims. The mosque occupies a space of at least 408 thousand hectares and can take up to 4 million people. There are spaces for prayers to be held both inside and outside.

This Mosques is also called the Prophet’s Mosques as it is considered to be have been built by Prophet Mohammed himself. It is the second holiest place in Islam after the Kabaa in Mecca. At the heart of the Mosques is the Green Dome which is said to house the tomb of the prophet. It was in 1837 that the dome built with wooden cupola was painted green and subsequently was referred to as the Green Dome.

This is a very beautiful mosque that also doubles as the third holiest site in Muslim religion. The Mosques is located in the old city of Jerusalem. The mosque is also part of the “Sacred Noble Sanctuary” which is the point that beliefs hold the Temple of Jerusalem once stood. It is believed that the Prophet Mohammed was transported from the Mosques in Mecca to the site of this Mosque during a night journey. This mosques built with precious metals is opened to all visitors.

This is the largest mosque in Morocco but the seven largest in the world. The building that was completed in 19923 has the tallest minaret in the world that stands tall at 210m. the sea bed of the Atlantic ocean can be seen through the Mosque’s glass floors. The mosque can contain up to at least 100 thousand worshipers. 25 thousand can be held inside and the rest outside.

This is a major tourist landmark in Brunei and although it has a relatively small capacity, its beauty well compensates for that. The mosque sits amidst beautiful floral gardens with flowing fountains. The many minarets of the mosques are made of the finest marble. It is a combination of Mughal and Italian architecture.
