A mountain is a summit rising above the earth service which contains earth large deposits and rocks. Mountain tallness can be based on two factors. These factors include the distance between its peaks and then other factor is the distance above sea level. There has never been correct height for the mountains as many encyclopedia differ by far with other sources.

The list for tallest mountains may change and other new mountains included only that some very mountainous regions are inaccessible. As at the current list the tallest mountains are: Mount Everest, Godwin Austen, Kapngchenjunga, Lhoste, Makalu, Cho Oyu, Dhaulagiri, Manaslu, Nanga Parbat among others. The world’s tallest mountains are volcanoes.

Now there is a standard used to rank the mountains according to their height called ‘’topographic prominence’’. It is the measure of how much the mountain is above the surrounding landscape.

Mount Everest

Mount Everest

Mount Everest is the world’s tallest mountain with height of 8,848 metres. It is a a dormant volcano. It is not active and cannot erupt soon. It borders china and Nepal. It is traditionally called Chomolungma and Sagarmatha by the Chinese and the Napalese respectively. Winds battering at the peak are jet streams which are cold, fast moving winds that goes around high in the atmosphere. These are very dangerous for mountain climbers.

People who have ever tried to climb this mountain total to four thousand. Those who have ever managed to climb it successfully count to a total of six hundred and   sixty. There has been those who are unfortunate and die on their way to the peak and their number count to a total of one hundred and forty two. ‘Sir  E.Hillarry’ in his ‘Facts About Mt. Everest’ say that it is sixty million years old. He was the first man to climb to its summit.

Godwin-Austen

Godwin Austen

Godwin-Austen is in Pakistan and is 8,611 metres high above the surrounding. It is also known as K2. It was explored by the greatest mountaineer then Mr. Henry Austen. Godwin Austen Glacier is named in  his honour. It has the best place for trekking due to the glacial feature.

Mauna Kea

Mauna Kea

Mauna Kea is a volcano mountain in on the island of Hawaii. It is 4,205m above the sea level. This has the highest peak in Hawaii. This could be the highest mountain in the world if the heights were being compared on the basis of the mountain slope.

This is because it has the longest slope of9,330m. It has a very long slope deep in the sea. It is one million years old and a dormant volcano mountain. The reason behind it smooth appearance is because of its late volcanic activity compared to other volcanoes.

Mount Kilimanjaro

Mount Kilimanjaro

Mount Kilimanjaro has three volcano peaks: Kibo, Mawezi and Shira. It is located in Tanzania and the highest in Africa. It is the tallest free standing volcano in the world with 5,895 metres above the sea level.

In conclusion there are very many tall mountains in the world with a very good history and others have not been explored due to inaccessibility for example others somewhere deep in the sea.
