Road Trip - Month?

Hi folks

I am moving to Vancouver next month and my family are planning on coming out for a road-trip from Vancouver to and around Banff & the likes. My family wanted to come out at the end of next March for my 30th Birthday, but I have done some research and it appears that some areas may not be overly accessible, as there will still be snow on the ground. With that in mind, I was trying to put them off March and getting them to come out in July instead - does anyone have any thoughts on this? Is there a time of year that Banff is more beautiful for example? Are there more activities/sights available in the summer rather than early Spring? When is the best time to spot wildlife?

I would appreciate any opinions/suggestions.

Thanks so much :)
