SHANXI - Taiyuan City is the provincial capital of Shanxi province. The city is the major base of energy, heavy and chemical industries in north China. Taiyuan is in the heart of Shanxi Province. It is 550 kilometers away north from Beijing. Its annual average temperature at 9.5 C. Taiyuan has a total area of 6,988 square kilometers. The city has a population of 2.8741 million of permanent residents in total, consisting of 2.1719 million of urban permanent residents.
