Travel To Rome
Rome is one of the destinations in Europe that I have visited and appreciated the diverse attractions and activities that you can engage in. In fact, I can recommend this city to any person planning to travel to Rome because you can be here for a long time and not exhaust its immense beauty that is hidden in mind-blowing art, the food and historical sites among them UNESCO world heritage sites. In fact, it is for this reason that this city is also known as Eternal city. When you visit Rome, you need to be aware that some of the attractions are not within the city centre hence you need to be prepared to go out of town.
While in Rome, it is easy to find accommodation that suits your budget. I stayed at the Palm Gallery Hotel that is small and cozy but worth the price. My hotel room was large, well equipped, clean and the service was perfect. In addition, the breakfast was excellently done as the staff can make eggs and coffee the way you want them. The hotel is also close to several restaurants so you do not have to go far to find meals.
One of the places that is a must visit while in Rome is Pantheon. This impressive monument is dedicated to the seven planetary divinities. This structure is amazing as it has a gorgeous interior made of marble. When I entered the building I felt like I had been taken back in time. Although the church was previously dedicated to the Roman Gods, it is currently used as a church. The general architecture of this building is amazing. I also went to the Spanish steps that is at the heart of Rome. This square is elegant and vibrant and is surrounded by buildings that have been in existence since the 18th century. The highlight of the Spanish steps are the twelve flights that have varied width and these descend to the Franciscan Church of Trinita dei Monti that is also scenic. The view from the top is great and I stood there enjoying the activity. However, you must beware of hawkers that shamelessly shove their wares in your face(they almost ruined my day).
Via Veneto is another place that you must visit even though it is considered to be one of the famous and most expensive shopping streets in Rome. This street also featured in Federico Fellini’s La Dolce Vita film. While walking on this street I discovered a number of fancy hotels as well as luxury shops even though I did not do any shopping. The walk on this 20th century street was quite therapeutic. Another place that you need to visit while in Rome is Trevi Fountain that is also known as Fontana de Trevi that is one of the great highlights of Vatican City. This attraction is often included in the Vatican guided tours that come with the history as well as a lot of information.
A tour of Vatican City was quite thrilling for me as it is the centre of Catholicism and I am a catholic. Although Vatican City is the world’s smallest state, it has amazing architecture. While here, you must be careful so that you do not walk into the wrong direction. An admission fee is required, you will do well to book your ticket through the Vatican’s official website that will offer you great value for your money, as you will thoroughly enjoy walking around the perfectly designed and peaceful square. You also must not miss the magnificent St. Peter’s Square where the pope holds mass for the catholic faithful every week. This square is famous the world over hence there are thousands of people coming here every day so you need to arrive early to enjoy the tour.
I also went to Colosseum that is also referred to as Flavian Amphitheater. This structure is an amazing and it is the work or Roman engineers. If you have read about this structure or seen it on post cards and movies, you will definitely appreciate seeing it and listening to the elaborate audio guides. While here you will definitely have a true feeling of power, might and everyday life as it is in ancient Rome. Another place where you can experience the political, religious and commercial aspect of ancient Rome is the Roman Forum that features the Arch of Septimus Severus, Arch of Titus, Temple of Saturn and House of Vestals. This terrific historical site that has great architecture and art is reflective of the Roman Empire. The entire experience at the Colosseum is interesting especially because of details on the building that include marble carvings. In addition, there are several natural fountains where you can refresh yourself of a hot day. I also took a tour of Campo de’ Fiori that is the open air market for fishmongers and farmers market. I got myself some fruits that I would later enjoy at my hotel room. I also loved the sight of the fantastic flowers, caviar, truffles, as well as lemoncello among other items. Moreover, the merchants are quite entertaining. On my final day in Rome, I went on a food tour that gave me the opportunity to explore the city as well as enjoy the real Italian cuisine. This tour was fantastic as I got to taste different kinds of dishes that were simply amazing. If you think that Rome is the cradle of Catholicism so there is no nightlife then you are wrong. In fact, there are numerous nightspots where you can while the evening away. Even then, I preferred spending my evenings at the restaurant where I had my dinner because they had a live band that kept us entertained. Although I was not able to visit half of Rome’s attractions, I definitely recommend this city to you if you are looking for a travel destination in Europe because you can be sure of the best of times.
