Valle de Guadaloupe is in the state of Baja California in the Ensenada municipal District of Mexico. This city was founded bythe Dominican Missionary Felix Caballero in 1834 making it the last of the missions established in the Californias.
Though Caballero had to abandon the mission in the later stages owing to the attacks by the indigenous population here, he had succeeded in establishing the presence of the mission in this city. In the beginning of the 1900’s, a total of about 50 Russian families settled here and they are still firmly rooted in this area.
Most of them have been able to settle themselves on the vineyards and are greatly involved in the Wine industry. The Molokans, the Russian community is still credited withthe huge popularity of the Mexican Wines. An association of the winemakers of this region holds the Grape Harvest festival every year...

Also demonstrated is how the Russians contributed to the culture and the traditions of Valle de Guadalupe. Some of the Russians are still settled here and work in many of the wineries in the area. In fact the maximum Russian influence can be seen in this winery. Here the white wine is preferred over the red wine because of the classic taste that this winery lends to the white wines. The tasting room is a small dark room in the back of the winery. Right from the Spanish missionaries of the 1600’s to the Russian settlements, the movement swept the entire region and win making is now the most proclaimed activity here.
There is also a Rancho Cortes Cheese factory here and is a small operational unit located near El Porvenir. The specialty here is the cow’s milk Queso fresco, which is freely available for sale. A tour of this small establishment will teach you the antics of cheese making. Though this is a commercial establishment, the smaller scale of this place means that you would not meet many people here.
