Enugu is the capital of Enugu State, located in the Southeastern part of Nigeria, with a population of 722,664 according to the 2006 Nigerian census. The name ‘Enugu’ means ‘The Top of The Hill’, which denotes the city’s hilly terrain.  The city perfectly delivers a lifestyle of affluence, security and serenity.  It is argued to be one the most beautifully planned cities in Nigeria, with Udi Hill as a picturesque background for the city. Enugu is designed around comfort and modern lifestyle that can be seen in a lot of advanced cities whilst retaining its African cultural heritage. It is often referred to as the ‘Coal City’ because of the significant coal mining activities that happened in the colonial era. Today, it is the home of Nollywood, the third biggest movie industry in the world.

Enugu is known for its beautiful sceneries, cultural diversity and undulating plateau. If you are coming to Enugu, the charming scenario in the unique forest dynasty of Ngwo Pine  forest would blow your mind away, with its romantically set pine forest and waterfall.  The Amagunze/Akpawfu Lake Complex is a wonderful attraction that consists of 9 lakes that is seen within the district. One thing you should not forget when coming here is either a camcorder or a camera for picture taking.

The 30 metres high Awhum waterfall which was formed as a result of a massive outcrop of granite rock with water cascading over the top forming a stream is a haven for tourists.  And you can pay a visit to the Awhum Monastery that is situated in this location too. According to folklore, the water of Awhum is said have a healing power that can even dispel evil forces if sprinkled.

Travel to Enugu and experience its Mmanwu festival, which features more than 2000 masquerades and cultural dances. There is also the new yam festival, which marks the end of the farming season for you to get involved with during the festival.

There are lots of hills to visit like the Milken Hills, Udi Hill, Nsukka Hill; parks like the Polo Park, Enugu Metropolis that has state of the art amusement facilities and the government ceremonial park located at the Okpara Square. For coal mines, your destination can be the Onyeama Mine and Okpara Mine. Historical shrines are scattered around the city like the Isi Ujulu, Eka Ana, Ugwu Owere and the ‘Wonderful stone’ shrines to name a few.

There are lots of hotels for your relaxation and modern malls like Shoprite for anything that you would want to purchase at an affordable price in Enugu. Akanu Ibiam International Airport is popularly called Enugu Airport by the locals, it is named after the statesman, Akanu Ibiam .  There is no time that visiting Enugu is going to be less fun. However, a lot of people enjoy coming to the city between May and December.
