Jeddah is becoming a very busy tourist attraction center and one of the primary resort cities in Saudi Arabia. It was named by the Globalization and World Cities Study Group and Network (GaWC) as a Gamma world city, and is also the main entry point for pilgrims who are coming for the Hajj pilgrimage to Medina and Mecca, the sacred cities of Islam. It is famous for its restaurants, cafes, shopping districts and has the largest number of beaches, resorts and hotels.  There are lots of off-limits beach resort compounds where the social life is experienced more and visited by the liberal and rich families including tourists.

Jeddah serves some of the headquarters of international firms like the Jeddah Economic Forum, Islamic Development Bank, Saudi Geological Survey and Saudi Arabia's Human Rights Organization to name a few.
