Reclining Buddha

I can suggest the obvious, Bangkok, with glorious temples, golden Buddhas, and the opulent Grand Palace.  Above is a huge reclining Buddha;  Below giant palace guardians.  Any location safe from Bangkok traffic is desirable.  Auto traffic was awful in 1999, and likely is worse now.  One way to avoid cars is travelling by boat, both on the main river and a canal tour.  Bangkok was once like Venice, and hopefully enough canals survive over a decade after my trip.

Ayutthaya, the prior capital, is a quiet place to explore Thai history and architecture.  It's worth a day trip.palace guardians

Thailand islands are the main attractions of Thailand. Ko Phi Phi, Ko Lipe, Ko Adang, Ko Rok and Ko Kradan are popular islands for snorkeling, diving and other adventure activities.

You may also drop by in Pattaya if you have spare time in your Bangkok trip. It this around 45 minutes drive from Bangkok. There is buses and taxis available in Bangkok to take you there.

In addition to the above, Wat Arun, The Grand Palace, Wat Pho and the Chatujak weekend market (sometimes referred to as JJ) are all major attractions within Bangkok.
