Places To See In Falkland Islands
Falkland Islands is one of the places you should consider next time you are planning for a holiday. I had a vague idea of the place until when my husband proposed that we were going to have our first anniversary of our marriage in the Falkland Islands. I was happy about the idea but I didn’t know that place. I was sure it was going to be a wonderful holiday for the two of us. James, my husband booked a flight to this island. He organised for everything to ensure that our stay there was going to be uninterrupted. I waited for that day to come and it came. We went to the islands, enjoyed our moments there and finally we came out of that place very felicitous. It was fantastic, I can’t hide the joy I have right now. The story of Falkland Islands I have is very interesting, and I have to share with you, so that next time you choose Falkland Islands as your place of visit. And here I have my story, hope you will enjoy it.
Our day of trip came, one day before the first anniversary of our marriage. We arrived at Falkland Islands very early in the morning. We received a warm welcome at the airport, this gave us a good impression of our holiday. We were received by a tourism agent. She told us that we had chosen a right place, since the place had many tourism sites for us to enjoy. She said that Falkland Islands has many wildlife, war history, geography, fishing and much more. We couldn’t wait for it to start, we had been given a fantasy of it, but we were going to prove by ourselves. If indeed it was a memorable place.
Jubilee Villas is where our tour kicked off. They are buildings found in Port Stanley. They are backside the jetty and they were built by the dean family who were local traders in 1887. We were told that the buildings were called to commemorate the Golden Jubilee of Queen Victoria. The place has mainly for the witness of rich culture of the Falkland Islands. We really enjoyed this place and it opened up our adventures. We were shown different cultures of people of the Falkland Islands. The history was great, including wars which had taken place in the past. Indeed they were touching. Jubilee Villas were just a warm up, there were nice things all through.

The next thing we were to do was to travel upcountry and observe the wildlife. Since Jubilee Villas did not take much of our time, this one was going to be. We hired a car to take us through as we observed the wildlife. We observed many kinds of animals and birds in the upcountry. There are penguins in the offshore of the sea. Penguins are very beautiful and I had never seen them. This was my first day to, I enjoyed watching and taking photos of them. Birds were all over the sky, no one could deny the beauty they bring. The fresh air and good weather made our tour fun. The water around Falkland Islands has many marine animals. We were also told that Falkland Islands had a mammal called warrah which is now extinct.
After spending the whole afternoon observing wildlife, the day came into an end. We went to Mavina House hotel. This is a very wonderful hotel I have ever been. This hotel is located in the heart of Stanley, which is the capital of The Falkland Island. The services offered at the hotel were to our satisfaction. We were served with delicious food, I can’t forget it. For sure this hotel is leading in the island. It has a very neat bedroom, you will actually enjoy with your couple. The experience in this hotel is memorable. We spent time with James celebrating our anniversary in this hotel. People in the hotel were very friendly, they came to celebrate with us. We cut cakes and everyone in the hotel really enjoyed the moments with us. We took some wine and slept having had a wonderful night.
Another attractive site you will enjoy to be is Whalebone Arch. This was a very interesting one. The Arch is made up of four jaw bones of blue whales. This bones, we were told arrived there in 1922 from the South Shetland Islands. It is a very beautiful arch and we could not miss posing for photos there. The photos are lovely and I have decorated my home with them. We were told the bones were weathering, and they have been renovated with the work being conveyed Tim and Pauline Carr. If I could have found them, I could appreciate them so much, they were doing a very wonderful job.
Apart from seeing a very wonderful Arch, behind it we saw a green covered house. We were told by an agent that it was built in 1907 for the assistant colonial chaplain. The building with truthful sources is also historic, it is the birthplace of Jack McDonald Hobley, who was famous in Great Britain in ‘50s as one of the world first television celebrities. That was not all we were told about the green roofed house behind the Arch, it also served as a communication centre in the First World War. We were told it was commanded by Royal Navy. At the end of our tour in that place, we had learnt a lot of history.
We got into a car we had hired. The Battle of the Falkland Islands Memorial was following in our places of visit that day. It is in Port Stanley. We arrived there and the agent explained to us the stone monument. She told us the stone monument commemorates the men of both the Royal and Imperial German Navies who fought in the 1914 Battle of Falkland Islands. This saw four German cruisers and two transports sunk with high loss of life. This story was really touching and I nearly shed tears. We took snaps of this place so as to show our family members the historic moments we had with historic monuments.
We could not miss a watch of the only forest in the Falkland Islands, this is Hill Cove. The trees on the fringe was fine, although some dashing trees at the heart of wood were looking somehow grim. We took photos of this beautiful forest. James really liked this forest. It is a home to crew of small birds. We are told most of these birds are black-chinned siskins and Falkland trashes. We could also catch a glance of Hill Cove Farm’s miniature horses. Behind the forest we were told by the agent that behind the forest was Hill Cove cemetery.
The day came to an end. We had had a very tremendous day. This day we decided to have a different taste of hotel, Waterfront hotel. It was a nice one. We were served well with delicious food. After which had a very good night to wait for the next day to have our way back home.
The next day we took a flight and came back home after memorable moments of Falkland Islands. When I see the photos I just have a nostalgia of it. My husband was happy with how we spent our first anniversary in the islands. We really have something to tell our friends and family. They really enjoy the story and others have shown interest of visiting the place in future. We learnt a lot in our trip including a lot of history. We also had a glance of the islands wildlife. Falkland is a very beautiful place. Anyone wishing to visit this place should not think twice, since choosing Falkland Island is the best decision. It has left memories that have stuck in my mind for a long time. I really liked Falkland Islands.
