A very beautiful and oldest places in Uruguay is Colonia, Uruguay. This place was founded in the 1680 by the Portuguese, Manuel Lobo. Manuel Lobo  was the governor. For all Buenos Aires visitors, this is definitely going to be one of the best memories from the trip to Uruguay. This is a very relaxing place, giving you a pleasant experience and will take you away from the Chaotic life of the other parts of Uruguay. This place Colonia or Colonia Del Sacramento lie on the north shore of Rio De La Plata.  This place normally has tourists from all parts of the world, but more number from Argentina.

But now this place is entirely opposite to what it was in the 19th century. You will find many tourists in this place every year.

One day when she was waiting for her lover, a stranger stabbed her and she was dead. But there is a belief that this woman haunts this street on full moon day. Rio De La Plata

The place where Uruguay and Rios Parana is uniting is Rio De La Plata. This is a river in Colonia which is having Buenos Aires on the other side of it. This river is very wide, but it's not too long. You can enjoy a pleasant walk along the riverside along with your family and friends. But it is not definitely suitable for swimming as the water in the river is not really clean. You can also enjoy a beautiful sunset here at the bank of this river.

In order to make the trip more interesting, you should first search for a good restaurant that can serve the best food. Kick up a bottle of wine and that is going to be really wonderful. Another very small but interesting place for tourists across the globe. Galería De Los Suspiros is a very interesting historic center where you can find an interesting gallery of art works. It is a lighthouse near the port area but you can call it a small museum as well as you have bulbs installed in the lighthouse so that you can view the inside of the lighthouse. Museo Portugues De Colonia Del Sacramento

One of the interesting places of Colonia which is going to take you back to the eighteenth century. Museo Portugues De Colonia Del Sacramento belongs to 1720. You get a chance to see the ceramics and furniture of the 18th century. You also can see the Spanish and Portugese weapons which were used during that period of time. There are a few maps displayed there and they are very old maps of the 18th century. A very special part of this Museo Portugues De Colonia Del Sacramento is that you can see an original shield being displayed in this place. This shield was used over the drawbridge gate.

Parque Anchorena

An interesting place which is very popular for its scenic beauty, cultural values, history, flora & fauna and wealth is Parque Anchorena. This is Parque Anchorena, which is also called as the Anchorena park is attracting tourists from all over the world for years. The total area it covers is 1369 hectares. This is a park which was constructed for recreational and educational purpose of the people who visit Colonia.

This place is open only between 10:00 to 14:30 hours only and you should not waste even a single minute when you are in the Park area so that you do not miss anything. You get to see many different kinds of huge trees. The park is very strict about the closing timings and the timings are different on the weekends. So better check the timings in advance before you visit the place. You get very less time to spend in the park if you are visiting during the weekends and hence it is good if you can plan it in week days.

 

Iglesia Matriz

Now it is time to visit something religious. Iglesia Matriz is a church in Colonia. But this church is not one among all other churches in Uruguay. This is the oldest church in this place and really very beautiful place to visit on your trip to Colonia. The church was first constructed in the year 1680 and when you look at the church, you can see a mixture of Spanish and Portugese fortunes. The church which is available for the people to offer prayers was last renovated in the year 1810.

This is definitely not the most beautiful churches in Colonia but it is definitely the oldest churches in this place and you should not miss this place. It is really very calm inside and you will feel blessed when you enter inside the church. You will find all white washed arches with just a single Nave. After a very tiring trip in and around Colonia, you will feel relaxed in the church. The interiors of this place are really fantastic and you will love it from the bottom of your heart. The church is being rebuilt from centuries but it still resembles the history of Spanish and Portugese. Basilica De Santisimo Sacramento is a small church where you can spend a few minutes to offer your prayers and also to enjoy the brick work. This is the only interesting part of this church.

 

Playa Ferrando

A very relaxing place in Colonia is Playa Ferrando. This is a very beautiful beach in this small beach town Colonia. This beach is completely on the outskirts of the place and you can have a lot of fun along with your family and friends. If you want to escape from the noise and crowd of this place, then you should definitely visit this place. As the place is in the town outskirts, you will find very few people there and it can be the right place to relax. You can book your accomodation in some resort near the beach and spend a few days here. If you are planning a long trip here, then better plan it in the off season so that you will find the beach very much private for you with just a few tourists around you. The trip also would less costly when you are planning it in the off season.

There are many interesting places in this town, Colonia like Granja Colonia, Centro BIT, Embarcadero De Yates Riachuelo Park, Museo Del Ferrocarril, Museo Del Período Histórico Español, Museo CASA Nacarello, Museo Municipal, Museo Del Azulejo, Museo Indígeno and many other places. You have many bus facilities to and from Colonia from Buenos Aires. You should check them online or you can get details about them when you reach any of these places.

Playa Ferrando

One of the most interesting things that you should not miss when you are going on a trip to Colonia is the sunset. If you wish to watch sunset sitting in a lawn along with your partner, then you should reach Bastion Del Carmen. This place was once upon a time a factory, but now it is just the tall chimney that is remaining from the factory. If by any chance you are unable to reach here, then you can reach the yachting club wharf. Even from this point you can enjoy a beautiful view of sunset.
