There are several Options of how to get from Boston To Nyc:
TRAIN
This is my favorite way to get to Manhattan it is quick and direct... However more pricy than the bus as the cost is around 90$ depends on when you book it.
You can get it from Penn Station in Manhattan to Boston's South Station. Acela service takes 3.5 hours, while other trains take as long as 5 hours. You can purchase tickets in advance on Amtrak's website or in person at Penn Station.
BUS
Much cheaper than the train but not as comfortable, the Trip lasts around 4.5 hours, but can be even longer depending on traffic. Only Greyhound departs from within Port Authority Bus Terminal, while other bus services depart curbside.
Mega Bus - 16 departures daily, apx. 15$
Bolt Bus - 14-20 departures daily, apx. $20
Greyhound - 21 departures daily, apx 25$
CAR
Driving will take you around 4.5 hours (depends on traffic) You can drive from Boston To NYC the most direct route takes you through Connecticut on I-84 to I-90 in Massachusetts and is about 220 miles. The drive passes through New Haven and Hartford, Connecticut, both of which can be a pain during rush hour. The big disadvantage I see in this way is that you really won't need a car in either city and parking can be troublesome and expensive.
PLANE
Flying to Nyc is the fastest way to travel, and will take you just 1 hour. However if you include the time to get to the airpot and going through security you can eaily add 3 hours more.... (As you will get 2 hours before your flight) So the train will probably take you around the same time. Also the airport in NYC is outside of Manhattan so that sucks too.
Flights are often cheaper than the train so it is definitely an option. Boston Logan International Airport (BOS) is the nearest and most convenient airport to downtown Boston and the T runs from the airport to downtown.
Hope that helps
