Ban Gioc Waterfall - Cao Bang Province
Ban Gioc waterfall is situated in Dam Thuy commune, Trung Khanh district, Cao Bang province in Vietnam. It belongs to both Vietnam and China’s sovereignty.
Ban Gioc waterfall is considered the most beautiful waterfall in Vietnam, which is not only potential to tourism development but also plays an important role in hydroelectricity.
Ban Gioc waterfall was recognized as the biggest waterfall in South East Asia and the second largest trans-national waterfall. It has a height of 30 m with limestone terraces. Bushes, small trees and moss, which make the waterfall more picturesque, cover the terraces. On the sunny days, the water smashes to stones and create the shiny splashes diffusing with sunlight creating the colorful rainbow. The water flows look like the white silk rolling down from hill. The river below is as clear and calm as a mirror, which creates an idyllic scene to rowing a boat on.
The waterfall is separated into a main part and a secondary part, with a total width of 208 m. The main part, which is the lower and larger one in the south, is on the border of Vietnam and China. The entire secondary part belongs to Vietnam; and part of the main waterfall belongs to China.
There is a cave near the waterfall called Nguom Ngao. This cave was evaluated as one of the most beautiful caves and grottos in Vietnam. The stalactites and stalagmites in the cave were formed through thousands of years into many lively shapes of creatures such as coral reef, tree, animals, etc.
Ban Gioc Waterfall is a truly magnificent piece of the nature, which implies how spectacular and marvelous nature can create. The beauty of this waterfall has been described time over time in poems and literature. The Hopefully, the waterfall will become one of the most remarkable and impressive tourist destinations in Vietnam.
